The minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment under the administration of, President Muhammadu Buhari, to participate in the coming governorship election in Bayelsa state.
It was gathered that the minister submitted his resignation to President Buhari last week.
The Presidency, however, confirmed the resignation of Sylva ahead of the All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship primaries in Bayelsa State next month.
President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, in tweet in his official Twitter handle confirmed the development after weeks of speculations about the intention of the Minister.
Ahmad tweeted “Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election”.
BUSINESSINSIDERNG reports that Sylva had declared interest in participating in the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC primary election will be held in April while the governorship election will hold in November 2023.
