The Council of Maritime Truck Unions and Association (COMTUA), on Thursday, threaten to protest illegal road blocks and extortion points on the port access road through strike action.
The President of COMTUA, Com. Adeyinka Aroyewun, had given a 7 day ultimatum to the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to address the issue at hand or the council will ask his members to withdraw services.
According to him, the council will use all lawful means to stop illegal toll collection on the port access road.
His words, “COMTUA at the end of our weekly meeting, has decided that a 7 day ultimatum be issued to the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to ensure that all illegal road blocks and extortion points mounted by both state and non state actors are removed from roads in Lagos, while ensuring that all offenders in the illegality are arrested and prosecuted.
Several letters written to relevant government agencies fell on deaf hears and this is a deliberate attempt to kill our business.”
“We shall not fold our hands and allow illegal actions and inactions of government agencies to destroy our business. We shall not hesitate to use all means to protest against illegality and protect our business.”
