Police Arrest Antony Joshua’s Driver Over Reckless Driving

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police, on Thursday confirmed that the driver of the Lexus SUV conveying British Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, and his friends before the accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway is currently in police custody and assisting with an ongoing investigation.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Spokesman, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said the driver of the Lexus SUV is with the police.

“The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing,” Babaseyi stated.

Earlier report had claimed that the driver was missing following the fatal accident, but the police clarification has dispelled such concerns.

The world-renowned boxer was involved in the accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

According to the police, the crash occurred at about 11:00am at Makun, near Danco Filling Station, close to the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis.

Joshua was rescued from the wreckage of the Lexus SUV after the accident, while two corpses were discovered at the scene of the crash.

Police disclosed that the British Nigerian boxer, who was seated at the rear of the vehicle sustained minor injuries, had received medical attention and subsequently discharged from the hospital.

However, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene, casting a shadow over the tragic incident.
