Labour Declares Total Shutdown Of Airports On Tuesday

KOREDE FOGO
Striking aviation unions have warned air passengers not to bother coming to the Airports to connect any flight, on Tuesday, because the strike action would total.
BUSINESSINSIDERNG reports that the Aviation unions such as Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association (ATSSSAN); the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE); the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), had grounded economic activities at the Lagos and Abuja Airport by blocking all access roads leading to the airports.
The strike action was due to the demolition of the building of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), in Lagos.
The unions also protested against the implementation of new minimum wage consequential adjustment with arrears for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) since 2019 and the release of the reviewed conditions of service for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria and NIMET.
But, speaking on behalf of the striking Aviation workers, the general secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCSTRSE),  Sikiru Waheed, threatened total shutdown of activities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to him, the second day of the ongoing strike will be more effective than the first day, adding that the first day of the strike was just a warning to the public and the government that they were serious about their demands.
He said, “Day two of the strike would be more effective than what you are seeing here now because we only have some leverage today to serve as a warning to other people that are travelling.”
He also urged people who have plans to travel on Tuesday to shelve their plans, saying that the strike action will be a total shutdown.
“So people who need to travel tomorrow should please don’t book a flight for tomorrow because it is going to be a total shutdown, it is not going to be like today by 5:00 and we will be here to shut down everywhere,” Waheed declared.
