A truck belonging to Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN), has hit a pedestrian at Anthony Oke, Inward Oshodi, Lagos, on Monday morning.
According to a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the pedestrian sustained a serious injury, including a broken left leg after the accident.
Adebayo, however, stated that the truck driver flee after hitting the pedestrian.
“LASTMA has successfully apprehended a truck driver involved in a hit-and-run incident earlier today at Anthony Oke, heading towards Oshodi. The driver, operating a trailer owned by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc (registration number JJJ 764 XV), was apprehended after hitting a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the expressway near the Total Filling Station at Anthony Oke, inward Oshodi.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of today, sparked significant concern among witnesses and commuters. The pedestrian, who sustained a serious injury, including a broken left leg, was promptly attended to by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.”
Adebayo, stated that the fleeing driver was, however, apprehended and handed over to the Police for further investigation.
“LASTMA officials on duty at the time responded swiftly, pursuing the fleeing driver and apprehending him at Oshodi. He has since been handed over to officers from Mosafejo Police Station for further investigation and prosecution.
“The agency will continue to collaborate closely with law enforcement to bring traffic offenders to justice,” the statement read.
