The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has assured the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, of its readiness to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force in securing trade corridors and strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, the association said Disu’s emergence comes at a critical period when Nigeria requires decisive and visionary leadership to reinforce national security, restore public confidence in the Police Force, and effectively tackle emerging criminal threats confronting key economic and strategic sectors.
APFFLON noted that as major stakeholders in the country’s logistics and maritime value chain, freight forwarders play a pivotal role in facilitating trade and economic growth, stressing that enhanced security across ports, borders and transportation corridors is essential to sustaining investor confidence and national development.
The association emphasised the urgent need for comprehensive retraining and reorientation of police officers towards intelligence-led policing, professionalism and respect for human rights.
According to the group, modern security challenges demand improved operational capacity, deployment of technology-driven solutions and stronger inter-agency collaboration.
APFFLON also called for immediate attention to the welfare of serving officers and retired personnel, noting that improved working conditions, adequate equipment, enhanced remuneration and a sustainable pension structure are critical to boosting morale and entrenching integrity within the Force.
“A reformed, disciplined and well-motivated Police Force remains fundamental to national stability, investor confidence and sustainable economic growth,” the statement added.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening security within Nigeria’s trade and logistics ecosystem, expressing optimism that collaborative engagement with the Police leadership would yield tangible results.
