The Association of Nigerian Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tin Can Island Chapter, on Monday, drums support for the Area Controller of the command, Compt. Dera Nnadi mni, as the pilot test of the Time Release Study (TRS), introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), begins.
In a chat with BUSINESSINSIDERNG, the Public Relations Officer, Tin Can Island Chapter, Comrade Onome Monije, said Tin Can Island was chosen as a launchpad for the TRS because of the capability and capacity of Compt. Nnadi.
According to Monije, “As Tin-Can Island takes the lead in piloting Time Release Study in the country’s seaports, ANLCA Tincan congratulates Comptroller Nnadi for the laudable achievement of the command being the launchpad for TRS in Nigeria. We believe and trust his efficiency and capability along with his management team in doing a good job and getting it right in line with the global best practice.
“So, we are calling all stakeholders, to come up with right declaration as we are going into paperless and modern Customs where goods can be cleared out of the seaports within 48hrs right from the time of declaration, examination, releasing and cargo delivery to importers warehouses because that’s the basis and essence of the TRS.”
Monije, who stated that the TRS will enable 48hours cargo clearance, however, called on stakeholders to support the Customs management initiative of transforming cargo clearance and evacuation from the seaport.
“So, it is imperative we all come out to give our support in ensuring that it is a success. Now that we are experiencing this floating exchange rate, with genuine declaration. It will be very easy for us to be able to release our goods within 48hrs without incurring any demurrage.
We will be saving time and money from terminal and shipping charges and with this, we believe that Tincan command will get better and operation will be seamless.
“The CAC’s office is opened for any operational challenges and for proffering one stop solutions to them. So, we say kudos to the Comptroller and we wish him more strength to deliver on the mandate,” Monije stated.
