1,000 Passengers Trapped As Bandits Attack, Bomb Train

KOREDE FOGO

Barely two days after invading the Kaduna International Airport, killing a Staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), gunmen suspected to be bandits bombed the Kaduna- Abuja train.

According to a passenger on the train, Dan Anas Iro Danmusa, he said the train engine has been ruined due to explosives planted on the train by the bandits.

He said, “Please this is an emergency. We are inside train at the moment. Kidnappers planted explosives and the train engines have been ruined. We are helpless on the Abuja to Kaduna train. Gunshots still being fired right around us. We are just under the seats praying to God while waiting for help. Since 8pm we have been here. Between Katari to Rijana. I am a living witness.”

However, the managing director, Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria

confirmed the development, saying efforts are underway to obtain further information about it.

Though, the casualties could not immediately confirmed. The railway has become one of the busiest in the country since it was opened in 2016 amidst expectation it would provide a safer alternative to people plying the route.

However, several attacks linked to armed gangs have occurred repeated along the route, even as the government issued regular assurances to citizens about their safety.
